November 27, Thursday is the day that we enjoy a day off and have Thanksgiving Dinner with friends and family. I remember one parents would close the restaurant for the day and head to the cabin to start making food for all of us. My mom would get up at 5 am and start baking pies at least 5 of them, Apple, Mince Meat, Pumpkin, Coconut Cream (MY best pie), Cherry. Than would be time for the turkey, Ham, Chicken legs, for the stove. Time to peel the potatoes for Mash Potatoes, Pennsylvania Dutch Potatoes filling, Oyster Filling and Sweet Potatoes. Gravy would be Turkey Gravy and Cheese Gravy. Move on to the Vegetables, Green Beans, Corn. Home Made Cranberry Sauce. Dinner rolls were store purchase, if I recall right. My Dad always told us "We Eat At 1 P.M. do not be late. " Chef-Prepared Thanksgiving Complete Turkey Meals & Sides To Go - thekitcheninthewoodlands After Dinner, it was time to watch Football and take a walk in the woods and we would all have a bag to find Teaberries that my Dad could make Teaberry Wine the week after. Yes the good old days, I try to match my mom for Thanksgiving Meals but cut back on most of it. Can Not wait for next week.
