“The Eye Buys” is a favorite phrase of mine to use when referencing the curb appeal of a home for sale. Could this phrase also have somewhat of an influence on how one selects a real estate agent? Let’s hope it’s not the sole factor one considers when a choice needs to be made on hiring an agent, but I’m confident it is a factor in that equation.
I spoke to a group of people last evening who are participating in the bariatric surgery program at Milford Hospital in Milford MA. None of them have had weight loss surgery yet, but they are scheduled within the next month. Exercise was the topic, and with that topic, cosmetic surgery always surfaces by someone in the group, when I’m the speaker.
It made me think now about real estate and the value of looking our best. Clothes are one factor, but body image is another. One comment that was made in response to cosmetic surgery was from a woman who was in her early 70’s (not much older than I!!) Her comment was that she was having this surgery for health reasons alone, and that she was in no way vain about how she looks.
I think it’s realistic to believe that we all have a certain degree of vanity. It’s how we’re wired. Everyone has a different appearance, and it’s not uncommon to see photos on yard signs, business cards and other methods of marketing. There are head shots; half body shots and full body shots used with marketing materials. It seems that the old saying “if you have it, flaunt it” comes into play with marketing!!
Does physical presence make a difference? People want quality when it comes to knowledge of the product and how to market the product. Do they consider other factors, too, if there are multiple agents who have similar degrees of experience and success in the field?
I believe that everyone wants to look his/her best, and that makes vanity a factor that everyone possesses. If not, we’d wear the same clothes until they were rags; we’d never change our hair style or visit the hair salon; we wouldn’t be concerned about our eating habits; and exercise would not be in the equation at all. We do all of that because of vanity. If we were not vain, we would not need mirrors!!!
Just another thought for today…..
