Moving Tip #2…Don’t Rely On Your Memory
As much as we’d like to think our memory is infallible, there will always be something we forget, especially under the stress of moving.
We have on us almost always one of the best tools to help us with this…the camera on our devices! For example, I’ll snap a photo of a recipe if I don’t have time to make a list before I head to the store. I snap pictures all the time of things I need to remember.
When you’re ready to move, this is the perfect time to put your camera to use!
How?
~Rightsizing- Use the camera to take pictures of items you’ve decided to donate, sell, or throw away!
On the iPhone, for example, in the edit feature, use the Markup Tool to put an X on pictures of items you’re not taking!
I know it sounds like overkill but having moved 10+ times, I can tell you, you will forget!
As you get settled in your new home (and long after that), you’ll find yourself asking where your favorite serving dish is. Did you misplace it? Did you donate it??? The photos you take (and save) can help you from spending days looking for something you don’t have.
~Where Did You Have It?
It never hurts to have photos of your house inventory for floods, fire damage, etc.
Photos of the rooms in your former home could help you when you move into your new home.
You start to unpack in your new home, open a box then wonder…Where did I have that???
You may not want to have everything in the same place on a shelf as you did in your former home but at least you have a starting point.
~Packing- Whether you are packing yourself or having your moving company pack for you, it’s a good idea to take photos of the contents of the boxes.
